11. Concluding Remarks
Fifth-generation mobile communications (5G) services will begin in 2020. Systems for Beyond 5G and 6G are currently under consideration. In the 25th URSI-C, wireless systems for Beyond 5G and 6G have been widely discussed. In the 7th open workshop of the 25th period, we held a workshop on antennas, propagation systems, and related technologies for Beyond 5G and 6G. In particular, beyond 5G and 6G, not only the speed of communication but also the reliability and the robustness to connect anywhere are required. In this open workshop, there were three talks on technologies to realize these requirements from the viewpoints of antennas and propagation.
Dr. Muroga (Tohoku University) talked about the design method of electromagnetic noise suppression sheets to obtain high reliability, while the operating voltage has been lowered to save energy and reduce noise immunity. The presentation was very meaningful, with many enthusiastic questions from the audience.
Dr. Yamaguchi (Softbank) presented a lecture on how to measure electromagnetic waves in the 300 GHz band, which is expected to be utilized in Beyond 5G and 6G, and presented cutting-edge research results from companies. The presentation was very meaningful as it disclosed many valuable data.
Prof., Dr. Fujimoto (University of Fukui) talked about the application of quantum computers in the field of wireless communications, which is one of the keywords for Beyond 5G and 6G. He gave an overview of quantum computers and explained in detail how quantum computers can actually be used in the field of wireless communications. The presentation was very meaningful with lively discussions.
It was very useful to have a wide-ranging discussion on technologies for Beyond 5G and 6G from the viewpoint of antennas and propagation.
